The church of Greyfriars has an accident-prone history; firstly, it was used as a gunpowder store, resulting in an associated explosion in 1718. The west end had to be rebuilt as a result. Later, in 1845 a fire destroyed much of the church. The repair and rebuild, in 1857, included the addition of the first stained glass windows of any Scottish Presbyterian church. MORE...
